"Turning Out" is a 25 square meter microhome project that aims to scrutinize the concept of affordability beyond its traditional association with economical materials and construction methods. Instead, it seeks to redefine affordability in terms of the breadth of activities that one can afford to happen within a small-scale home, spanning from private moments to social interactions. Can we afford moments of solitude when we crave respite? Can we afford to host a social gathering with friends?
As part of the endeavor to maximize the range of activities possible within the limited square footage, the design incorporates a revolving core—a theatrical feature commonly utilized on stage for rapid scene changes. The core provide the ease for reorganization and brings a transformative quality to the home without necessitating the modularization of space. Positioned off-center from the rotation axis, the core consistently maintains a bias toward one side of the room or the other. Each 90-degree rotation is meticulously crafted to function as a distinct modality, offering versatility and adaptability within the space.
