Taitung lies nestled between the Central and Coastal Mountain Ranges. In this project, two single-family houses were combined as a boutique B&B named 鈥淚sle Place鈥. To celebrate local character, the design team chose an earthy color palette, stone-like textures, and mimics organic forms, crafting a space that responds directly to its landscape and climate. Embracing the notion of an 鈥渁rchipelago,鈥 the guesthouse鈥檚 layout weaves discrete zones into a harmonious whole, creating a natural, unpretentious rhythm of dialogue and connection.
Gazing from the entrance, the doorway itself evokes the first murmurs of waves upon landing. The ground floor is split into two wings: to the left, a reception lounge for returning guests; to the right, a kitchen and bar area arranged for dining and entertaining. These shared spaces open outward like a pair of wings. Inside, curved walls and sinuous lines envelop structural columns, softening the original building鈥檚 rigid geometry and guiding circulation effortlessly. Deep-hued paints and layered gray textures are woven throughout鈥攏ot to call attention to themselves, but to balance the space鈥檚 crispness with a sense of warmth.
What makes a journey truly captivating are the moments of unexpected revelation. Each doorway does more than demarcate a new zone; it acts as a threshold of curiosity, inviting you to step through. Around each curved wall lies a small universe of its own: a quiet window seat, or a tucked-away nook lush with greenery. Through a choreography of sightlines and emotional layering, this B&B transcends mere accommodation to become a journey of the spirit, where travelers can drift into calm reflection amid shifting light and gentle curves.
