Amid Taipei’s vibrant urban corridor, this modest 43 square meter duplex quietly houses a woman and her six feline companions. More than a home, it tells a gentle story of coexistence: a shared journey shaped by affection, care, and the art of everyday living. Within the limits of space, the designer has cultivated a world of emotional breadth, using minimalism not as subtraction but as an invitation for grace and intimacy.
The residence is built on a deep empathy for multispecies life. The use of non-toxic materials including mineral-based seamless flooring and Benjamin Moore’s zero-VOC paint ensures a safe, breathable environment for both humans and animals. Every material and form was selected with the cats’ needs in mind, reflecting the owner’s unwavering devotion to their well-being.
A custom vertical cat wall creates a seamless pathway between the living area and the mezzanine, while also serving as a visual anchor within the space. A translucent glass enclosure discreetly holds food and litter essentials, keeping hygiene organized while maintaining openness. Natural light from the street-facing windows floods the interiors, balanced by glare-free linear lighting embedded into walls and steps. This anti-glare strategy ensures a soft, ambient glow that suits both feline eyes and human comfort.
Curved edges, softened corners, and floating forms provide a sense of rhythm and safety. Every line is meant to invite movement and ease. A reinforced waterproofing system was installed to resolve prior leakage issues, with temporary street closures required during construction. This detail highlights the project’s commitment to long-term comfort.
This home redefines compact living. It is a sanctuary not defined by size but by its emotional resonance. Through its quiet detailing and thoughtful design, it offers a new perspective on urban housing—one where tenderness, resilience, and design shape a deeply shared life between a woman, her cats, and the space they call home.
