Situated on the banks of the Fenjiang River鈥擣oshan鈥檚 鈥渃urrent of culture鈥濃擯oly Koi Tang Yue is a residential landscape project inspired by the rich cultural and historical context of the region. Drawing from the local carp-worshipping tradition, particularly from Liyusha, the project takes the auspicious symbolism of koi to express blessings of joy and prosperity. Water from the Fenjiang River is introduced into the garden, weaving the koi motif throughout the space. This reflects the poetic idea of 鈥渃arp rising to the clouds鈥 and 鈥渓eaping over the dragon gate,鈥 infusing the design with cultural meaning and local identity. The layout is based on 鈥渙ne loop, two axes, and five tiers of homecoming etiquette,鈥 and unfolds through 鈥淣ine Koi Auspicious Realms and Eight Neighboring Koi Scenic Views,鈥 offering a layered experience of oriental living aesthetics. The landscape integrates Foshan's cultural elements, including the elegance of Liang Garden, the theatricality of Cantonese opera, celadon hues, and the form of traditional dragon boats. Inspired by Lingnan garden traditions, the design employs elevation changes to simulate rock formations and waterfalls, creating a dynamic, three-dimensional landscape painting. Key garden elements like stone courts, mountain courts, and water courts are framed by winding corridors, evoking the classical Lingnan courtyard feel. Modern reinterpretations of features such as the "half-pavilion," "stone arch bridge," "lotus-scented waterside pavilion," and "central lake stone" add depth and visual interest. The sunken courtyard employs rockwork and water techniques to form 鈥渁 garden within a garden.鈥 The core landscape pavilion evolved from a simple single-story structure to a cantilevered, double-layer 鈥渉alf-pavilion,鈥 reducing spatial oppression and creating a visual highlight. Planting follows classical techniques inspired by Liang Garden, with a focus on feng shui symbolism and year-round beauty, resulting in a timeless, elegant space that reflects traditional Chinese values and aesthetics.
